- AMD Radeon RX 8800 XT: RDNA 4 GPUs & Performance Breakdown
The AMD Radeon RX 8800 XT (RDNA 4) is one of the most anticipated GPUs, with new rumors emerging about its specs and performance. According to Chiphell Forum member zhangzhonghao, the RDNA 4 GPUs, including the RX 8800 XT, are set to offer significant improvements in power efficiency and gaming performance, making them a formidable competitor in the GPU market.
The RDNA 4 GPUs are expected to enter mass production in mid-December, aligning with their release in Q1 2025. The official unveiling is set for CES 2025. While the RX 8800 XT name isn’t confirmed, AMD might use a different naming scheme for this new generation.
One key detail shared is the power efficiency of the RDNA 4 GPU. It’s rumored to have 25% lower power consumption compared to the RX 7900 XTX, which typically draws around 350W in gaming. The RX 8800 XT is expected to draw between 250-270W, comparable to the RTX 4070 Ti and its SUPER counterpart.
In terms of performance, the RX 8800 XT is said to deliver a 45% boost in ray tracing performance, particularly in games like Resident Evil 4 Remake. AMD has also confirmed that ray tracing (RT) and AI features will see significant improvements in the RDNA 4 architecture. The same RT and AI engines are used in the Sony PS5, which has shown impressive results.
When it comes to rasterization, the RX 8800 XT is expected to compete with the RTX 4080 and RTX 4080 SUPER while maintaining lower power consumption. This will make for an exciting showdown between the RTX 5070 and RX 8800 series, with price being a crucial factor. If priced around $500, it could offer excellent value for gamers seeking high performance.
