- Nintendo Comments on Leaked Switch 2 Hardware | Official Statement Released
Nintendo has officially broken its silence regarding the ongoing leaks surrounding the Switch 2 hardware. Following a week of rumors and speculation fueled by a leaked video and a replica model from accessory maker Genki, Nintendo has issued a statement to CNET Japan, clarifying its position. The statement was simple yet direct: the hardware shown by Genki is “unofficial” and was not provided by Nintendo.
Earlier this week, Genki, a well-known peripheral maker for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and other gaming devices, showcased a physical mockup of the Switch 2 at the CES event. The company also released a highly detailed video render, which was designed to highlight upcoming accessories for the next-gen console. Genki further claimed to have obtained the molds for the hardware from the black market, prompting many to question the authenticity of the leaks.
Nintendo’s official response, while brief, does not comment on the veracity of the leaked Switch 2 assets, including the recent renders shared by OnLeaks and 91Mobile. Instead, Nintendo’s statement focused solely on confirming that the hardware shown by Genki was not official and was not supplied by the company. The statement was similar to a comment made to Senkei, a Japanese newspaper, which echoed the sentiment that the hardware in question was not official.
Despite the directness of the statement, Nintendo did not take the opportunity to deny or confirm the authenticity of the Switch 2 design itself, nor did it dispute any of the other leaked information that has surfaced over the past week. This silence on key aspects of the leaks has led many to speculate that Nintendo could be preparing to reveal more official information soon, possibly in a Nintendo Direct presentation later this month.
For now, the leaks continue to generate excitement and speculation, as many are eager to see how the next generation of Nintendo Switch will take shape. With Nintendo’s reputation for being a litigious company, it’s curious that the company has chosen not to pursue any legal action regarding the leaks, which only fuels more speculation about the authenticity of the next-gen console.
As of now, all eyes remain on Nintendo, and the gaming community is waiting for the official reveal of the Switch 2, with the possibility of a detailed announcement coming sooner rather than later.
